Our Story

It all started in 2019 with a small gesture of kindness where the founding member and executive director of this Charity, Dr Tahir Akbar had serendipitously attended a wedding where the surplus food was about to be wastefully thrown out. Through an act of genuine altruism, the food was collected and distributed to a local homeless shelter in Berkshire. This key event led to a greater realisation of a wider issue of poverty in the local area, where a significant number of people remain homeless, without warm clothes, food, or necessities.

To address this problem in an organized manner, Kaneez Bi Foundation (KBF) was formed with a small group of like minded individuals as  board of trustees.

The trustees have a common desire to help minimize poverty and serve the community. With diverse backgrounds, skills and varied professional experience, the trustees continued to provide food packs, initially from their homes.

The charity is named after the late Mrs Kaneez Bi, a kind and generous woman who always supported her community, through kindness, charity, and support. The charity continues her legacy in her name.

The weekly food parcel distribution was swiftly supported by local volunteers taking turns to provide food as well as collecting and distributing clothing and other essential items to the homeless, refugees, children in poverty and those in need.

In collaboration with child services and local schools, KBF continues to provide lunches and food parcels for children living in poverty.

To expand the charitable services and formalize the organization, Kaneez Bi Foundation was registered and established with the Charities Commission.

The charity has collaborated with the Brett Foundation, Global Helping Hands, Care4Calais and the local social services where needs have been identified and funds raised to mitigate these needs.
